Express Entry Program is a federal immigration system used by the Canadian government to manage and process applications for permanent residency from skilled workers who want to live and work in Canada. It is a points-based system that evaluates candidates based on factors such as age, education, language skills, work experience, and adaptability.
The Express Entry Program has three main economic immigration programs:
- The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): This program is for skilled workers with foreign work experience who have received a job offer from a Canadian employer or are deemed eligible based on their education, work experience, language skills, and other factors.
- The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP): This program is for skilled tradespeople with work experience in a skilled trade who have received a job offer from a Canadian employer or a certificate of qualification from a Canadian provincial or territorial authority.
- The Canadian Experience Class (CEC): This program is for foreign nationals who have gained work experience in Canada and want to transition to permanent residency.
Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is a Canadian immigration program (express entry program) designed for skilled foreign workers who wish to obtain permanent residency in Canada based on their education, work experience, language proficiency, and other factors.
Eligibility requirements for the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
- Work Experience: Have at least one year of full-time skilled work experience (or equivalent part-time work experience) in a National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill level 0, A, or B occupation within the last 10 years.
- Language Proficiency: Meet the minimum language proficiency requirements in English or French, which can be demonstrated through a language test.
- Education: Have completed at least a Canadian high school diploma or an equivalent foreign education credential.
- Adaptability: Have sufficient funds to support themselves and their family members, if applicable, and demonstrate their ability to adapt to Canadian society.
Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria can submit an application through the Express Entry Program, which is an online system that manages applications for several Canadian immigration programs, including the FSWP. Candidates are assessed based on a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) that assigns points for factors such as age, education, language proficiency, work experience, and adaptability to Canadian society.
The advantages of the FSWP program include the ability to obtain permanent residency in Canada without the need for a job offer, and the opportunity to leverage existing work experience and contacts in Canada to increase the chances of success. Successful applicants and their families can then live and work in Canada as permanent residents.
Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) is a Canadian immigration program designed for skilled tradespeople who wish to obtain permanent residency in Canada based on their work experience, language proficiency, and other factors.
Eligibility requirements for the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
- Work Experience: Have at least two years of full-time work experience (or equivalent part-time work experience) in a skilled trade occupation within the last five years.
- Language Proficiency: Meet the minimum language proficiency requirements in English or French, which can be demonstrated through a language test like IELTS.
- Education: Have completed at least a Canadian high school diploma or an equivalent foreign education credential.
- Job Offer: Have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer that meets certain requirements, or a certificate of qualification issued by a Canadian province or territory.

The Canadian Experience Class
The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is a Canadian immigration program designed for foreign nationals who have at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada and wish to obtain permanent residency based on that experience.

Successful applicants and their families can then live and work in Canada as permanent residents.
Application Process
To apply through Express Entry Program, candidates must create an online profile and provide information about their education, work experience, language proficiency, and other details. They will then be ranked based on their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, which assigns points for factors such as age, education, language proficiency, and work experience. Candidates with the highest scores are invited to apply for permanent residency through regular draws from the pool.
Once invited to apply, candidates have 60 days to submit a complete application and supporting documents. The Canadian government aims to process Express Entry applications within six months of receipt. Successful applicants and their families can then live and work in Canada as permanent residents.
